Bone Oncology

The orthopaedic subspecialty referred to as Bone Tumor or Orthopaedic Oncology is a highly specialized field. Because orthopaedic tumors are rare conditions, there are only 127 bone oncologists in the U.S. Orthopaedic oncologists provide diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors.

A musculoskeletal tumor is an abnormal growth that may occur in bone or in soft tissue such as muscle, tendon, nerve, fat and blood vessels. Tumors can be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). They can occur in people of all ages and can affect any part of the body.

OrthoIndy’s bone oncologist treats all ages, including children and infants with tumors or tumor like conditions and sees patients with difficult radiographic abnormalities for diagnosis.
